Program Description
This program provides the background and rationale for developing and implementing evidence-based critical pathways (aka protocols, algorithms) for acute coronary syndromes–from hospital admission through patient discharge–that are consistent with the updated ACC/AHA Guidelines for UA/NSTEMI and the new Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) data collection requirements on hospital core measures. In part 2 of this 2-part program, Dr. Eugene Braunwald presents the 2002 ACC/AHA updated guidelines for UA/NSTEMI–focusing on specific areas that were changed from the 2000 update and citing the clinical evidence that supports these changes. Next, Dr. Christopher Cannon presents studies that show critical pathways really work. The panel then convenes to provide practical tips to help you develop and implement critical pathways for ACS at your own institution.
